Collection: Silk Fabrics

Silk is a natural protein fibre reeled from the cocoon of the silkworm. It is light, strong for its weight and cool against the skin, and it takes dye to a deep, even colour. The weave decides how it behaves: crêpe falls in soft folds, twill holds a print cleanly, organza stands away from the body.

Most of this selection is Italian, the rest French, and most pieces sit under 100 g/m² — blouse, dress and scarf weights. Crêpe is the largest group, then twill, organza, chiffon and jacquard. Some are silk blends with acetate or viscose, and any piece with a minor flaw says so on its own page.

The weaves, and what each one does

Crêpe is the backbone of this selection: a twisted yarn gives it a fine grain, a dry handle and a fall that does not cling. Twill is smoother and denser, and it carries a print without distortion. Organza is stiff and transparent, chiffon is soft and transparent, and jacquard builds its pattern into the cloth itself.

Why silk here is sold light

Most of these silks are under 100 g/m². That is the blouse, dress and scarf range, and it is where silk does what no other fibre does: a lot of surface for very little mass. Heavy silk is rare in this selection, which sits at the light end of the scale.

Working with a silk that has a flaw

About a third of these pieces carry a minor defect — a pulled thread, a short mark, a trace somewhere along the length. It is named on the product page, and laying the pattern around a single flaw usually costs a few extra centimetres.

FAQ

What is silk fabric?

Cloth woven from the filament a silkworm spins for its cocoon. The filament is long and smooth, which is where silk's shine, its strength and its cool touch come from.

What is the difference between crêpe de chine and chiffon?

Both are light and both use twisted yarn. Crêpe de chine is opaque, with a matt, slightly grainy face. Chiffon is open enough to see through and is worked in layers or over a lining.

Is silk strong enough for a dress worn often?

Yes. Silk filament is strong for its weight, and what wears it is friction and strong light rather than ordinary use. A lining takes most of the friction.

What does a minor defect mean here?

A local fault on an otherwise first-quality length — a dropped thread, a short crease mark, a patch of uneven dye. The product page says which it is, so the pieces can be placed around it.
