What kind of fabric is ripstop? 

Ripstop is a reinforced weave (often a grid pattern), used with fibers like nylon or polyester, depending on the product.

What are the disadvantages of ripstop?

It can feel a bit stiff and “crinkly,” and the grid texture may be noticeable. Some types also feel less smooth than regular woven fabric.

Is ripstop waterproof?

Not by default. It’s usually water-resistant, but waterproof protection needs a coating or membrane made for outdoor use.
