Collection: Cotton Fabrics

Cotton is a natural plant fibre: it breathes, takes dye deeply and sews without fuss. What changes from one cotton to the next is the weave — poplin stays light enough for shirts, twill and gabardine hold a pressed line, denim, corduroy and tweed carry real weight.

Most of this selection comes from Italian mills, with a smaller French share. Weights run from shirting under 100 g/m² to coat cloth above 350, and close to half the pieces carry a little elastane. All of it is deadstock: single runs that are not repeated.

How to pick a cotton by weight

Weight decides more than fibre content does. Up to about 180 g/m², poplin and light twill go into shirts and unlined blouses. Between 180 and 250 g/m² sits the everyday range: dresses, light trousers, shirt jackets. Above 300 g/m², gabardine, denim, corduroy and tweed hold a shape well enough for jackets and coats.

Pure cotton and cotton blends

Pure cotton creases, and that is part of how it reads. A few per cent of elastane gives recovery in fitted trousers and skirts, polyamide adds abrasion resistance, and linen or viscose change the drape rather than the strength. The full composition is on every product page.

Buying deadstock cotton

Each piece here is a mill end or an atelier surplus — one run, one length, no restock. If a project needs more than one cut, take the whole length at once: the same cloth will not come back. The minimum cut is shown on each product page.

FAQ

What is cotton fabric?

Cloth woven or knitted from the fibre of the cotton plant. It breathes, absorbs moisture and takes dye deeply, and it can be woven light enough for a blouse or dense enough for a coat.

Which cotton works for shirts?

Poplin, batiste and fine twill, roughly 100 to 180 g/m². Mercerised cotton adds a quiet sheen and holds colour better through washing.

Does cotton fabric stretch?

On its own, no. Cotton with two to five per cent elastane stretches and recovers, and a cotton jersey stretches because of the knit rather than the fibre.

What does deadstock cotton mean?

First-quality cloth left over from a finished production run or an atelier, sold in the lengths that remain.
